Today is the second post in honor of International Women’s Day. This installment features Dawn Ainger, owner of Genova Technologies.

Who inspired you to become an Engineer?
No one. I was one of two women in the entire computer science department. I just thought it might be a good way to support myself since I was good at math and logic. I got my CS degrees before smart phones, before PCs, and before the Internet. I just thought, ‘You know, these computers might amount to something, someday…’ HA

A piece of advice for aspiring young female Engineers?
Ask questions. Offer solutions. I found that most of the time, other members of my class/team had the same questions, but just didn’t ask the question. Then they would come to me later and say, ‘boy, I’m glad you asked that. I was wondering that as well.’

What has been most rewarding to you in your journey?
Working with great people

How you balance all of the demands on your time?
Being an early riser (naturally), and getting stuff done before the rest of the family got up.
When the boys were little, never giving them an allowance, but paying them for household chores. This way, the house and yard got done, and the boys had some spending money. They were all doing their own laundry by seven years old. (I may have broken some child labor laws there…..HA!) ?
